Co-op Midcounties is partnering up with more than a hundred volunteering groups to offer an essential home delivery service to vulnerable community members in the Covid-19 crisis.
Over the past two weeks the organisation has been gathering details of vulnerable people living locally to its food stores, and now has a list of customers in need of help while in isolation.
The co-op is putting customers in direct contact with local volunteering groups who, working with their partner Co-op Food store, will deliver shopping directly to the homes of these members while they remain in self-isolation.
Through this new scheme customers will be able to request essential items they need, and volunteering groups will deliver it to their door.
Phil Ponsonby, chief executive of Co-op Midcounties, said: “Our colleagues across the Society have been working tirelessly to support our communities since the start of this outbreak and this is our next step in doing just that.
“Protecting those who are most vulnerable is key, which is why providing a service that means they can stay safe at home is so important.”
